Research Policy Implementation Framework
College-Level Research Structure
- Each college selects a Main Research Theme for a fixed period.
- Staff in related fields form Research Clusters within programmes.
- Each cluster works on a derived sub-theme from the college’s main theme.
- Clusters mature into Research Centres of Excellence (RCOEs).
- Each RCOE is led by a senior academic staff member responsible for its progress and activities.
University Research Office (URO)
Managed by the Director of Research and Postgraduate Studies, the URO is responsible for:
- Daily administration of university-level research activities.
- Coordinating activities of all RCOEs.
- Processing funding applications and research permits.
- Maintaining relationships with external partners and sponsors.
- Organizing research committee meetings.
- Overseeing postgraduate and professional development courses.
University Research Committee (URC)
The URC, chaired by the Director of Research and Postgraduate Studies, reports to the University Senate on:
- Research progress
- New research initiatives
- Funding status
- Academic awards
- Collaborative activities
Membership
- Director of Research & Postgraduate Studies (Chair)
- One representative from each RCOE / Academic Department
- Principals of the respective colleges
- One external representative from industry
- One external representative from another national university
Functions of URC
- Assist academic departments in forming RCOEs with focused research themes.
- Promote collaboration between RCOEs and similar centres or institutions.
- Facilitate partnerships with local and international industries to secure funding.
